ANTIQUE DOLL EARLY 1900′S KID LEATHER JOINTED BODY EXQUISITE BISQUE HEAD ARMS

This doll is from an estate that was full of many fine collectibles. The body is made of kid leather that was probably white when made around 1900. On the left front chest of the doll's body there is a maker's stamp in purple ink--check the two pictures carefully. The stamp appears to look like a muscled man with hands on hips with numbers between his wide-spread feet. Other lettering runs up and down his two legs. When the stamped image is turned upside down, one can make out some of the numbers between the feet--one being, I believe, the year which looks like 1900 or 1909; the other looks like a long serial number ending in 518. I am unfamiliar with the stamp and cannot make out anything more. The shoulders, arms and head are all bisque and are unmarred. There is no mark on the lower back of head, though it is possible there is one further up on the head under where the wig is glued on. I did not want to risk damaging the doll by prying the wig away from the bisque. The weighted glass eyes are blue and close when the doll is turned horizontal. The glass appears to be without any damage and are a clear and shiny blue with detailed pupils. The bisque parts do not appear to be faded, nor is there any sign that there have been any repairs or re-touching of the painted on facial features. There are no chips or scratches on the face, arms or fingers of the doll. I do not know for sure if this is the original wig or a replacement. The body of the doll is made of kid leather and is still soft and somewhat pliable. The body is very well proportioned and the toes are carefully detailed with intricate stitching. There are flexible and working joints at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. The clothing does not look to be original to me. She wears a pink underdress, pantaloons trimmed with lace, a lace trimmed dress, tie belt for dress, stockings, shoes with round leather disks made to look like buttons, and a hat trimmed with ribbon and lace. On Oct-28-14 at 23:03:47 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATED INFORMATION: I've just been told that the stamp on the doll's chest is the mark of Kestner Dolls, made in Germany and the symbol is a crown with ribbons hanging down that have the initials JDK, the initials of Johannes Daniel Kestner, Jr. who began making dolls in 1805. The company was later established in 1820 and existed until 1938.

Large 24″ Reproduction Doll With Bisque Head and Composition Body

This doll needs some TLC or could be used for parts. The head is in nice shape, I don't know what it is a reproduction of. Eyes are fixed. The wig is size 14. The hair is messy (and thin), but the doll might look great with a new wig. I planned to redo the wig, but I have too many hobbies, and I don't think I'll be getting to that anytime soon. The body is jointed and composition, but there are no markings that I can see as to the original maker. The paint is worn a lot at the joints (all of them), so be aware that you will need to repaint this if you want a cleaner appearance. There are occasional dings and scratches in the paint elsewhere, too. I tried to show some of this on the pictures. Please feel free to ask questions. I don't want anyone being disappointed. Thanks for looking! I only ship within the U.S.A. (sorry)
